Sri Varadendra Theertha

INTRODUCTION:

Sri Varadendra Theertha (18th century AD) was a great Madhwa saint and lived in Pune. His disciple Bhuvanendratheertha had built the pune Mutt for his guru. He was a great scholar and well-versed in Sanskrit language. His predecessor of the Mutt was

Sri Vasudheendra Teertharu

and his successor of the Mutt was Sri Dheerendra Teertharu, and his Samadhi Shrine is situated at

Pune.

He had won in the debates held with great scholars. He had maintained the Pune Mutt in a proper manner, and performed puja to Lord Moolarama, Krishna and other deities with much devotion. He travelled to holy temples throughout South India, and worshipped the divine deities. During his travel, several kings were gifted villages to Sri Swamiji. He was very good in handling administrative matters. Sri Jagannathadasa, was a famous disciple of swamiji and studied Vedic subjects under his guidance. Swamiji had composed many songs on Lord Rama, and personally used to sing in the Mutt.

He was an intelligent and a kind hearted saint, and was never interested in worldly affairs, but concentrated his entire attention on administering the mutt properly and doing puja to the deities in a well-versed manner. He himself used to distribute the holy Prasad to the devotees from his hands after the completion of Moolarama Puja.

He used to mingle with all the devotees without seeing their caste, creed or community, and he was against caste discrimination. He was a sincere devotee of Guru Raghavendra Swamigal, and performed his duties sincerely through the grace of Moola Rama and Sri Guru Raghavendra. He attained Jeeva Samadhi at Pune during the year 1785.

Let us worship the great guru and be blessed.
